CHANGES AT NYAHO MEDICAL CENTRE – AIRPORT BRANCH
As Ghana continues to battle with the coronavirus pandemic, the government together with various stakeholders are implementing key interventions that will manage the current positive cases as well reduce the rate of infection in the country.
Since Ghana recorded its first case of COVID-19, Nyaho Medical Centre, your trusted healthcare provider has been updating you on all operational changes within the Centre to ensure our patients, employees, and visitors are safe. We will continue to make the required changes to offer quality care to as many patients as possible during these challenging times.
In line with the above, we would like to update you on the additional changes we have made at our airport branch.
1. The Health Hub and Meeting room located next to the dental clinic have both been converted to consulting rooms. Kindly note that all patients with preventive health service requests are still being attended to at the Health Hub.
2. To reduce possible exposure of patients and staff, all in-patient cases are tested for COVID-19 at the emergency department before admission into the appropriate wards. To cater to the increased numbers, the emergency department has been extended to include consulting rooms 5, 7, and 9.
3. The Catherine Wing, which houses the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with ventilators is our dedicated ward for the treatment of COVID-19 cases. For the safety of our patients and staff, the following infection control measures have been implemented:
a. Segregated entry and exit points for staff, patients, and visitors.
b. All staff attending to patients are in full Personal Protection Equipment (PPES)
c. Strict adherence to visitor’s policy. (maximum of 2 visitors for an hour and visitors MUST be in a face mask)
d. Availability of hand sanitizers across the ward
e. Regular cleaning and disinfection of the ward
4. The Barclays Wing remains the ward for all non-COVID cases and to ensure the safety of our patients and staff, the following infection control measures have been implemented:
a. A separate and dedicated entrance to the ‘B’ wing.
b. Assessment training for all clinical staff to continuously monitor patients on admission
c. Strict adherence to visitor’s policy. (maximum of 2 visitors for an hour and visitors MUST be in a face mask)
d. Availability of hand sanitizers across the ward
e. Regular cleaning and disinfection of the ward
5. Since June 2020, Nyaho Medical Centre has received accreditation and approval from the Ministry of Health to conduct COVID-19 tests at its airport branch. This intervention has significantly improved decision-making in providing timely care to patients especially those with critical needs.
