Nyaho Medical Centre wishes to make a statement to the general public regarding a suspected case of the Ebola virus within its premises.

An expatriate was transferred to the Centre by the West African Rescue Association (WARA) on Sunday, 6th July 2014 with symptoms suggestive of a haemorrhagic fever.

The National Disease Surveillance Unit, the National Public Health Unit and the Regional Public Health Unit were immediately informed.

A team was detailed to the Centre and blood samples were sent to the Reference Lab of Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research. We await results of these tests.

The patient is in an isolated unit of the Centre with specialized attention from four (4) dedicated members of staff who have been the main contacts of the patient since his arrival.

Medical services are still being provided to all other clients without any interruption.

The situation is well under control and the general public is urged to remain calm as the disease is not airborne and all necessary infection control measures are in place.
